Common questions about how Brindl works right now.
What does Brindl charge?
10% plus $0.30 on the item price, taken out of the seller's payout when something sells. Buyers pay no fee at all: the price on the listing is the price at checkout, before shipping and any tax your state requires. Card processing comes out of Brindl's share rather than being added on top. Listing is free, however many you post, and if nothing sells you are charged nothing. A cash-in-person listing is free too, since that money never goes through Brindl. See the Pricing page for a worked example.
When do I actually get paid?
Your money releases 3 days after the sale into your Stripe balance, and you withdraw it to your bank whenever you like from Account settings. The wait exists so a refund can come out of money still held here rather than being clawed back out of your bank account after it has already landed. You need payouts set up before any money can reach you - until then a sale is held rather than lost.
How does shipping work?
For a shippable item the buyer picks a real carrier rate at checkout, calculated from the seller's ship-from address and the parcel details on the listing. Brindl passes that through at cost, takes no cut of it, and adds no markup. The seller then buys the label from their My Sales page and the tracking number fills in automatically. Nothing about shipping is part of the 10% - the fee is charged on the item price only.
What if an order goes wrong?
Message the seller first, since most problems are a misunderstanding and they can fix it faster than anyone else. If that does not work, open a dispute on the order from My Orders. Brindl reviews both sides and can refund you directly, which is the part a seller conversation cannot do on its own. Open the dispute rather than filing a chargeback with your bank first: a chargeback takes the decision out of everyone's hands here and is slower for you.
What if a job on the Board goes wrong?
A Board job is an agreement between two people, arranged through a quote. If the work is not what was agreed, take it up in the job's own messages first. Once money has changed hands through Brindl it is an order like any other, so the same dispute route from My Orders applies. Work paid for in cash, in person, never touches Brindl, so there is nothing here to dispute - that is the tradeoff for Brindl taking no cut of it.
How do I know something wasn't made with AI?
Brindl is for human-made work, but nothing checks that at the moment somebody posts a listing - it is an honor system for now. What there is is a way to act on it: "Suspected AI-generated / not human-made" is one of the reasons on the "Report" link on every listing page, and a reported listing gets looked at and can be taken down.
How do payments work?
"Buy now" and cart checkout both send you to a secure Stripe checkout page. Once Stripe confirms the payment went through, it shows up in your Orders and unlocks leaving a review.
Why does Brindl use Stripe?
To protect buyers. If sellers could take payment any way they liked, someone could post something fake, collect the money and disappear, and money sent straight to a stranger usually cannot be pulled back. Through Stripe, a seller has to verify who they are before any money reaches them, their cut is held for 3 days after the sale, and if an order goes wrong you can open a dispute from My Orders and Brindl can refund you directly. If a seller never finishes setting up payouts, you are refunded automatically. Brindl does not run its own payment system for the same reason: Stripe is a regulated payment company built to do exactly this, and Brindl never sees your card number. Cash-in-person listings are the exception, since you meet the seller and can check what you are paying for before handing over any money.
Why can't I leave a review?
You can only review a listing after actually buying it. This keeps reviews tied to people who've actually gotten the work, not drive-by ratings.
What are the seller tiers (New Seller / Rising Talent / Top Rated)?
They're based on a seller's reviews and sales across all their listings. Top Rated uses the same bar as being able to promote a listing: 4.5+ average rating from at least 3 reviews, and at least 5 sales.
How do I get my listing into the Promoted section?
Once you hit the Top Rated bar (see above), a "Promote this listing" button unlocks on each of your listing pages.
How do I message a seller?
Open any listing and click "Message [seller name]" - that starts a conversation you can find again later under Messages.
How do I list something?
Click "Post a listing" in the top menu, pick a category, and fill in a title, description, and price. Photos, multiple options (like colors or sizes), tags, delivery time, and your refund policy are all optional but help buyers trust the listing more.
How do I get a refund?
Message the seller first - they can refund you directly from their My Sales page, and that is the fastest route. Check the listing before you buy, since a seller can mark one "All sales final". If the seller will not resolve it, open a dispute on the order from My Orders and Brindl reviews it and can issue the refund itself.
Why does "Set up payouts" say my account must be activated?
That's on our end, not yours - a one-time setup step on Brindl's side that hadn't finished yet. Use "Talk to a representative" below and we'll sort it out.
How do I set up payouts?
See our step-by-step payouts guide - it walks through every screen Stripe shows you, from signing in to connecting a bank account.
How can I contact you?
The Contact page lists which route is for what - ordinary problems, payment and order disputes, and copyright each go somewhere different. For anything tied to your account, "Talk to a representative" below opens a thread an admin can reply to. You can also find Brindl on X, Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.
What is Brindl Pro?
A real subscription at $10.00 a month. It gives you a Verified badge, a boost in search ranking, half-price featured listings, and one feature credit every month that promotes a listing for 30 days. It does not change the fee on a sale. There is also a one-time Launching Bundl at $15.00 for three months of Pro plus two feature credits. Cancel anytime from your account. See the Pricing page for the full list.
How do I add a photo to my profile or a listing?
On your profile page, use "Customize your profile" to upload a profile picture or cover photo. Listing photos are added when you post the listing.
Is my payment information safe?
Yes - Brindl never sees or stores your card details. Checkout happens on Stripe's own secure page, and Brindl only ever gets told whether the payment succeeded, not the card number itself.
