Setting up payouts

A listing you post stays private until payouts are connected - there'd be nowhere for a sale to actually pay out to otherwise. It's a one-time setup through Stripe (the same company that processes the checkout itself), and takes a few minutes. Here's what to expect.

1. Start it from your account

Go to Account and click Set up payouts under "Get paid." That sends you to Stripe's own onboarding, not a Brindl page - you'll notice the address bar changes to a stripe.com domain, which is expected.

2. Sign in with the same email

Use the exact email address you signed up for Brindl with. Stripe uses it to match your payout account back to your Brindl account - a different email creates a disconnected one that Brindl won't recognize.

3. Verify your phone

Stripe texts a one-time code to confirm it's really you. Enter it and continue.

4. Business type

Most individual sellers should pick Individual / Unregistered business ("owned by one person and not registered with the government"). Only pick "Registered business" if you actually have an LLC, partnership, or corporation. If it asks about an EIN and you don't have one, answer "No" - that's normal for a one-person operation.

5. Your details

Once Stripe shows a screen titled "Let's start with the basics," the next section is "Your details." Enter your legal name the way it appears on your ID - this is identity verification, not what shows on your Brindl profile. If you're asked for a website and don't have one, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Don't have a website? Add product description instead" - a sentence or two about what you sell (e.g. "Handmade ceramics and home goods") is enough.

6. Connect a bank account

This is where your money actually lands, so it has to be a real bank account - not a payment app like Venmo, Cash App, or PayPal, which Stripe can't send payouts to directly. Search for your bank and log in through Stripe's secure connection (fastest), or use "enter bank details manually" if your bank isn't listed or you'd rather type your routing and account number in yourself.

7. Review and submit

Double check everything on the review screen, then confirm. Stripe verifies it on their end.

8. Back on Brindl

You'll land back on your Account page. If "Get paid" still shows Finish payout setup instead of confirming you're done, click it one more time - that just has Brindl double-check your status with Stripe, since the redirect back doesn't always mean Stripe finished processing it yet.

What changes once you're set up

Any listing that was waiting on this goes public automatically, and new listings post right away instead of staying private. On a sale, your cut - the price minus Brindl's fee (10% plus a small fixed amount) - lands in your Stripe balance 3 days after the sale (a standard hold before funds are considered final). From there, withdrawing is manual: click Withdraw to bank on your Account page whenever you want it moved to your actual bank account.

If something goes wrong

Seeing an error about your account needing to be "activated"? That one's usually on Brindl's end, not yours - talk to a representative and it'll get sorted out.
