eBay's October 1 shipping change, what it actually costs you per order, and how Brindl's fees compare.
What's changing on October 1
In the notice eBay emailed sellers, listings that use calculated shipping will start showing buyers the discounted eBay Labels rate instead of the retail carrier rate. Flat-rate and free-shipping listings aren't affected. It's applied automatically to sellers who got that email - opting out had to be done by September 25.
The reason sellers are annoyed isn't the discount itself. It's that eBay's final value fee is charged on the whole order, shipping included. The gap between the retail rate the buyer used to pay and the cheaper label you actually bought was the cushion that covered the fee charged on shipping. Show buyers the discounted rate and that cushion disappears, while the fee on shipping stays.
What it costs, per order
A $50 item with a $12 retail shipping rate and a $9 label, at a 13.25% final value fee plus $0.40 per order.

Brindl's fee is 10% + $0.30, charged on the item price only. Shipping is the real carrier rate, passed straight through to the label - we don't take a cut of it, so there's no cushion to lose.

Only when something sells. Listing is free, there's no monthly bill, and no fee to end a listing.
$0 on cash and pickup
List an item as cash in person and Brindl takes nothing at all - you arrange it with the buyer directly.
The honest part
Brindl is new and much smaller than eBay. We are not going to pretend you'll get eBay's traffic here on day one, and switching outright would be bad advice. What makes sense right now is cross-listing: put the same item in both places, and keep more of it when it sells here. Listing costs nothing, so a listing that doesn't sell hasn't cost you anything either.
Heavy and bulky items are where the difference bites hardest, because that's where shipping is the biggest slice of the order - furniture, tools, car parts, equipment.
